Our Favorite Xtreme Power UPS Units

Not every UPS brand earns a permanent spot on our recommendation list, but Xtreme Power has. At ORE Power, we sell and install Xtreme Power UPS systems across data centers, healthcare facilities, telecom rooms, and industrial environments.

Why We're Fans of Xtreme Power as a Brand
Before getting into specific units, it's worth explaining what sets Xtreme Power UPS systems above the rest.
Unity power factor (1.0) across their modular lines, meaning kVA equals kW — you get the full rated capacity instead of a derated real-power output
Hot-swappable power and battery modules that let you service or replace components without dropping the protected load
Purpose-built replacement platforms for discontinued legacy systems, so migrating off an end-of-life UPS doesn't mean redesigning your entire electrical room
Scalable architecture that grows with your facility instead of forcing a full system replacement when your load increases
With that context, here are our three favorite Xtreme Power UPS systems.
1. M90U-80: The Symmetra PX Replacement with a Matching Footprint
If you're running a legacy APC Symmetra PX and dreading the electrical room redesign that usually comes with replacing it, the Xtreme Power M90U-80 is the one we point people toward first.
The M90U-80 is a scalable, modular, online double-conversion UPS built for 208/120V three-phase environments. It scales from 15 kVA up to 80 kVA using hot-swappable 15 kW or 20 kW power modules, all housed in a single floor-standing cabinet.

Why it's one of our favorite Xtreme Power UPS systems:
Same footprint as the Symmetra PX it replaces. This is the detail that makes the M90U-80 stand out above other models. We can swap out an aging Symmetra PX without reworking floor space, conduit runs, or electrical room layout.
Unity power factor. Unlike derated legacy systems, the M90U-80 delivers full real-power capacity at its rated kVA, recovering usable headroom on the same electrical service.
N+1 redundancy in a single cabinet. Up to four hot-swappable power modules and up to sixteen internal battery modules combine for genuine fault tolerance without a separate frame.
Modular static switch and front maintenance bypass simplify servicing. Our technicians can perform maintenance from the front of the cabinet, with no rear clearance required.
Best for: Data centers, healthcare facilities, and industrial sites currently running an APC Symmetra PX or similar legacy modular UPS that need a direct, same-footprint modernization path.
2. X90-Series: The 480V Modular Platform Built to Scale
For facilities running at 480V (which is common in larger data centers, medical imaging environments, and industrial infrastructure) the X90 series is our go-to modular platform.
The Xtreme Power X90 series is Xtreme Power's enterprise-class 480V modular UPS platform, with configurations scaling from 50 kW all the way up to 700 kW across the X90-1S, X90-2S, X90-5S, and X90-10S models. It supports N and N+1 redundancy strategies for centralized or distributed deployment.

Why the X90-Series is one of our favorite Xtreme Power UPS Systems:
Genuine scalability across a full power range. Whether a facility needs 50 kW today or is planning toward 700 kW, the X90 family covers that entire range on one architecture, no forklift upgrade required as demand grows.
Industry-leading footprint. The X90-2S, for example, packs power electronics, internal batteries, and integrated maintenance bypass into a cabinet just 23.6 inches wide making it one of the most compact 480V modular UPS designs available.
High efficiency. Up to 96.5% efficiency in online double-conversion mode, and up to 99% in ECO mode, which translates directly into lower operating costs over the system's lifespan.
TAA compliant, making it a fit for federal, healthcare, and government deployments with compliance requirements.
Hot-swappable modules and full front access mean no rear clearance is needed for installation or service, a real advantage in space-constrained electrical rooms.
The X90 Series is Best for: Data centers, medical imaging suites, and industrial facilities on 480V service that need a platform capable of scaling from a modest starting capacity to enterprise-level power protection without switching systems.
3. M90S: The Single-Phase Modular Successor to the Symmetra LX
The Xtreme Power M90S solves a problem we hear about constantly: organizations still running an APC Symmetra LX, a platform that's been fully discontinued, with replacement modules and battery frames becoming harder to source every year.
The M90S is a modular, single-phase, online double-conversion UPS family built specifically as a Symmetra LX replacement path. It's engineered for split-phase 208/120V or 240/120V environments and scales from 6 kVA up to 48 kVA across four frame sizes (M90S-2S, M90S-4S, M90S-6S, and M90S-12S).

Why it's one of our favorites:
Directly addresses Symmetra LX's biggest limitations. The LX platform tops out at 16 kVA per frame and runs at a derated (sub-1.0) power factor. The M90S runs at unity power factor and scales to 48 kVA within a single architecture, meaning real capacity gains on the same circuit, plus room to grow well past what an LX frame could ever support.
Preserves the modular workflow LX users already know. Hot-swappable power and battery modules, plus an integrated maintenance bypass, keep the serviceability experience familiar for teams used to servicing an LX live.
Flexible deployment. The compact M90S-2S fits in a 6U rack space or converts to a tower, directly replacing Symmetra LX RM rack systems, while the larger 4S, 6S, and 12S frames extend the same platform up to full facility scale.
Current production with long-term support. Unlike the discontinued LX, spares, modules, and service are readily available now and for the foreseeable future.
The Xtreme Power M90S is Best for: IT closets, edge compute sites, telecom rooms, broadcast facilities, and any distributed enterprise location still running a Symmetra LX 4000, 8000, 12000, or 16000 that needs a supported, scalable successor.
The Common Thread: Modernization Without Compromise
What ties these three units together and what makes Xtreme Power a brand we consistently recommend is that each one solves a specific modernization problem without forcing a compromise:
Unit | Replaces | Key Advantage |
M90U-80 | APC Symmetra PX | Same footprint, unity PF, N+1 in one cabinet |
X90 series | Legacy 480V systems | Scales from 50 kW to 700 kW on one platform |
M90S | APC Symmetra LX | Unity PF, scales to 48 kVA, familiar modular service |
Whether you're modernizing a data center, replacing a discontinued legacy UPS, or building out new 480V infrastructure, these three platforms represent some of the strongest options currently on the market for scalable, serviceable power protection.
